9 Natural ways to de-stress

With this fast-paced world we live in, life can sometimes be extremely stressful. Whether it’s stress due to work, school, financial reasons, or relationships, we must know how to manage it (even if it’s something we can’t necessarily control). When there is prolonged and chronic stress on our mind, it will most always turn into some sort of physical problem as well. Some physical effects of chronic stress include constipation, pain, headaches, unbalanced appetite, high blood pressure, chest pain, or insomnia. It can be normal to have some stress in our lives, but it’s how we manage it that really matters. Below are some natural ways you can release stress.

1.) BreatheTake a couple of minutes periodically throughout the day to just close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. This will slow your heart and put your body in a more relaxed state.

2.) Get outside- Get outside by going for a walk and take in some fresh air.

3.) Ground yourself– Take your shoes/socks off and walk in the grass or sand. It feels great.

4.) Exercise– Exercise release endorphins (feel-good chemicals). Research again and again has proved that exercise is a great way to lower stress and cortisol levels.

5.) Eat healthy– Go to the grocery store and pick up some fresh fruits and vegetables. Also, drink plenty of water. Your mind and body will thank you.

6.) Get a massage- Massage is great for reducing any tension in the body.

7.) Drink tea- Have yourself a hot cup of chamomile tea 1-2 hours before you hit the hay. This will put you in a relaxed state and help you get good quality sleep.

8.) Talk it out- It’s not healthy to keep emotions bottled up. Talk to a friend, family member, therapist, or even yourself.

9.) Get acupuncture- This therapy provides balance to our body and puts the nervous system in a parasympathetic (rest and digest) state. It also addresses many other health concerns and keeps our mind and body functioning at an optimal level.
