Autumn is here! Colors are changing and the air is a little cooler. As with any season change, it’s important for us to adjust appropriately. To maintain good health, we must also adapt with nature. That means eating the right foods, dressing accordingly to the outside temperature, and getting in tune with our emotions.
Below are a few tips and recommended foods to eat at this beautiful time of year!
•Add warming soups and stews to your meals. It’s getting cooler outside, so it’s important to incorporate warming foods in our diet to warm us up!
•Steam/cook your vegetables instead of eating them cold.
•Eat foods like sweet potatoes, squash, orange vegetables, garlic, onions, lemons, limes, bay leaves, apples, pears, turmeric, black pepper, dark leafy greens.
•Minimize cold/raw foods.
•Cut back on dairy and sugar products.
•Drink plenty of water. Room temperature and warm is best!
•Take a warm bath.
•Keep your body covered with appropriate clothing. The lungs at this time of year are susceptible to illness, so keep covered by wearing a scarf around your neck.
•Meditate or breathe to get in touch with yourself. Autumn is related to the emotion of grief/sadness in Traditional Chinese medicine. Forgive and don’t hold on.
