Spring is finally upon us! It’s such a lovely time of year, especially all of the colors coming back into nature. Spring is a time of growth, not only for the Earth, but us humans as well. Remember, we are one with nature and to maintain optimal health, we must adapt appropriately.
Spring is associated with the liver organ in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The liver organ in TCM is responsible for making sure there is a smooth flow of qi and blood throughout the body as well as maintaining our emotions. Just as the energy of plants grows upward in spring, so does our liver qi.
So, what can we do to support our liver and stay healthy this season?
1.) Eat more green foods into your diet. Spinach, kale, parsley, mint, Swiss chard, leaf lettuce, and watercress.
2.) Add sour fruits to your diet such as lemons, limes, and grapefruit. This will also help in smoothing out your liver qi and burn away some fat that was built up in winter.
3.) Drink more water. Just as nature needs water for growth, so do we.
4.) Make time for yourself. Breathe in the fresh air, meditate, and/or go for a walk.
